Description

There's a principle in business,
That everybody knows is sound,
It says the people with the money,
Make this ever-loving world go round,
So I'm biggering my company,
I'm biggering my factory,
I'm biggering my corporate sign,
Everybody out there you take care of yours,
And me,
I'll take care of... mine mine mine mine mine!"

-- The Once-ler, "How Bad Can I Be?"

You listen to that song long enough and you start to think that "biggering" is a real word. Heh.

A different (and perhaps unusual) approach was taken when coloring this piece. It's one that I actually prefer, but hardly ever put into practice. What I did was draw and shade the drawing on paper, scan the drawing into Photoshop, create a layer over the original layer/drawing, "Multiply" that second layer, pick whatever colors I wanted, and simply colored over the drawing. Since the original, monochromatic composition was already shaded in pencil, I didn't really have to do much of anything with the colors except just... color over the thing (and maybe add some highlights and darken in a few parts here and there), because it "automatically" became dark and light in the areas I wanted it to be. That said, I really like how the green came out, but the rest of it? Eh. The drawing itself is okay, I guess, despite several anatomical mistakes, and the hues work well enough, but there's still something about the coloring itself that bugs me, particularly in the face....

Once again, I basically just copied a (rather blurry) screenshot from the film as accurately as I could, from the expression to the colors.

Here's the original, black and white drawing if anyone would like to compare the two: [link]

Note: A screenshot was referred to.

Update: I made a few adjustments. His mouth is now darker, there's a bit of a shadow on his teeth, and the coin is now a golden color (complete with a glare/glow effect).

P.S. Yes, I did give him a short hat instead of a top one. I hate drawing top hats, so I bent the rules. Ha.
